Strength training is carried out for the following reasons;

• To improve fitness levels.
• Rehabilitation or regeneration for injury or illness.
• Basic training to prevent or remove specific weaknesses.
• To gain a specific training discipline in competitive sport.
• Improves balance, co-ordination and stability.
• Improves strength for daily living, work and sports performance.

Medical research has showed that after the age of 30, people lose 1lb of muscle every year unless strength training is performed. If not performed, it may lead to;

Increased risk of Osteoporosis, injury, strains and sprains.
Difficulty in performing functional tasks
Decrease in sports performance
Developing a poor posture due to being unable to maintain good alignment.
Decreased bone density
However, carrying out strength training 3 times per week will help avoid all these problems.

There are three different types of strength to achieve when working out;

Strength Type

Description

Maximum Strength

Greatest possible strength that can be developed.

Speed Strength

Muscles overcoming resistance by rapid contraction.

Endurance Strength

Resistance to tiredness during disciplines which require a great mount of stamina.

most from a multi gym you must focus on the following parts of the body;

Biceps

Upper Back

Mid Back

Hips

Triceps

Thighs

Calves

Weight benches are ideal pieces of equipment as you can use them as part of a free weight training program with barbells or dumb bells or place it in a power rack.

Free weights are a good way of strength conditioning your body and by not sitting in a fixed position, you end up working on postural and stabiliser muscles which take an important role in your everyday life.
